Former Polish President, Lech Walensa to visit Chicago for award

Former Polish President, Lech Walesa.
Former Polish President and leader of the Solidarity movement, Lech Walesa will receive an award in February from the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library.

SPRINGFIELD, IL (Catholic Online) - The award is given to those who, "live and exemplify Lincoln's legacy of leadership," according to the foundation's CEO, Carla Knorowski. 

Walesa started as a shipyard worker. Becoming politically active as a result of his experiences, he helped to organize and lead the Polish Solidarity movement and went on to become Poland's first democratically elected president in postwar history. He has proven himself to be a strong fighter for the rights of workers.

The prize will be awarded in a ceremony on February 9, at the Four Seasons Hotel in Chicago.
