Chicago Innovation Awards honor locals making a difference

On Tuesday night, the Chicago Innovation Awards celebrated the city's entrepreneurial spirit and honored this year's winners.

CHICAGO, IL (Catholic Online) - This is the 10th anniversary of the awards and the contributions of 10 innovative entrepreneurs were recognized.

The winners were: 

Appolicious: A company that allows people to search and download apps for their smartphones.

Callibra: This company developed the Discharge 1-2-3 Composer, a medical device that allows emergency physicians create patient instructions with a mouse click. 

Elkay: For developing an easier way to allow workers to refill their water bottles from drinking fountains.

Illinois Tool Works: For inventing a capless gasoline tank cap. Soon, folks won't have to worry about losing their gas cap.

Narrative Science: For developing a program to turn tweets and business reports without using human writers. The technology uses artificial intelligence to create data-dependent content.

Navman Wireless: For creating a wireless tracking system for their vehicle fleets.

Red Frog Events: For developing an local entertainment industry specializing in hosting a variety of events in the Chicago area. 

Tripp Lite: For developing an environmentally friendly portable air conditioner. 

Trustwave: For developing software to monitor online security. 

World Bicycle Relief: For developing a program that provides specially designed bikes for transportation across Africa. 

People's Choice Award: For outfitting a bus to deliver fresh food and produce to people who may not have easy access to healthy food at affordable prices.
