School nurses to carry Epi Pens to treat allergic reactions in students.
The Chicago Public Schools Board of Education has voted to establish an asthma and diabetes policy after more than 19,000 students were diagnosed with these illnesses.

CHICAGO, IL (Catholic Online) - Over 4,000 students were found to have allergic reactions associated with these illnesses, making the issue a priority for school officials.

The policy now requires schools to retain staff that is trained to handle these conditions. Additionally, the staff will be trained to deal with ADHD, and will carry Epi Pens, which can be used to immediately counter allergic reactions.

In the event a school nurse is unavailable, staff will also be trained to handle these emergencies.
