CHICAGO, IL (Catholic Online) - Now a self-employed property manager, Avellini played for the Bears from 1975 to 1984.
Avellini, 58, has more than $2.2 million in liabilities and more than $1.3 million of assets according to the Chapter 7 filing list.
No statements explaining the former quarterback's financial problems were made in the case, which took place in a Chicago federal court. One of his bankruptcy attorneys, John Holowach, said Avellini would not make further comments beyond what is in the public filing.
